Boyd Gibson has had a wide and varied musical life. He earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music at Howard University  and  completed additional graduate studies in Musicology and Composition at Duke University. Boyd has served as Choir Director at Pine Forge Academy in Pine Forge, Pennsylvania, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Eastern Africa, in Kenya, East Africa and has recently retired as director of the String Orchestra Program at Durham School of the Arts, Durham NC and the Music Director of The Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill, NC where he served at both for the past 20 years. 
 
As a composer he has been fortunate to have his compositions performed by the Duke University String School, the Ciompi String Quartet, Durham School of the Arts String Orchestra, various middle and high school orchestras, several Durham Public School Honor's Orchestras, The Durham School of the Arts Chorale, The Shaw University Choir and The Adult Choir of The Church of the Holy Family. He was the featured composer at the Raleigh Durham Chapter of the American Guild of Organist in December 2007, and his organ works have been performed at various organ recitals and church services throughout the region. 

In his first 2 years of "retirement"  he taught at Kidznotes, an El Sistema program in Durham NC, while also focusing on his composing. He has now joined the music faculty at the University of Southern Caribbean in Trinidad where he is directing the orchestra and chamber choir and teaching music theory and composition.
